Back to grey, hot Dubai. It was good to be home in my own bed with my own pillow. I honestly slept so hard I was disoriented when I woke up. Then I saw my dog Fudge – he grounded me.
Fudge was happy to see us again. The cats nonchalantly found their way to me for a sip of coffee, and to turn on the tap, respectively. If you know me, or know my cats, I’m sure you’ll guess which cat wanted what. For the record, I do not let Eevee drink coffee regularly. Although she tries.

A valet at a beautiful location in Newport, Rhode Island in the US, just down the road from where I took this picture, told me he would love to work in Dubai. He was “so ready to get out of this place.”
I on the contrary was thinking how fortunate he was to be surrounded by such beauty. I found this place really beautiful… and not the America I was expecting – it felt normal! A friend who is a retired diplomat came to visit with me for a week while I was there and she said the same – after living in a few places in the US and around the world, she was surprised by its scenic beauty.
The whole time I was in the US, I’d been wondering how I could I bring my work to this beautiful corner of the world in the cooler, summer months. I shared my love for his work location with the valet as I answered his questions about my work in Dubai. He told me he would be happy to come work in my place and take over my operations as I worked from Rhode Island. “Deal”, I said.
What is it that calls someone to search for more even when what they have might be the most precious, best thing ever?
By no means am I ready to leave Dubai. It’s exactly where I want to be. I know when we are young we always seem to want more. I did. And I encouraged every single young person I met on this trip to travel and see the world.
But there are the bigger questions. Is anyone ever content? Can humans be content? Does no one ever find true happiness? Is it human nature to always look for something better, or are people just taking what they have for granted?
Maybe it’s the view. Maybe it’s jet lag.
