Should We Eat Fruits or Are They Too High Carb?

Fruits.

Another healthy food we have been taught to fear. Because of their carbohydrates, some schools of thought have said that fruits are bad for us.

Benefits of Fruit

Fruit is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and fiber, which are much needed to stay healthy.

It’s way healthier than any processed low-carb food or sugary snack you might eat.

Fruit and the Diabetes Diet – Is Fruit Ok?

Yes, if you have diabetes, you’ll want to be mindful of your fruit intake. But eating fruit is not the cause of diabetes.

There is also research that suggests that people who eat more fruit have a lower chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.

Please encourage your kids and yourself to eat fruits.

Set Yourself Up To Snack On Fruit

I do this by having a fruit bowl always out in my kitchen. That way if I want a snack, I see it before anything else.

Below is the perfect Turkish summer fruit bowl. It’s not mine, but a friend’s. Best enjoyed with the sunset over the Agean Sea.

An Example of the Nutritional Wonders of Fruit

This was my afternoon snack recently during my travels through Turkey … nectarines.

Should we eat fruit?

I love these but don’t really eat them in Dubai. They are so sensitive and not as good and juicy as I remember. So when I am in Turkey I enjoy them to the fullest! (And yes those are apricot seeds! I ate them so no pictures 😃)

I have these nectarines with a few nuts to avoid any blood sugar spikes. Plus the fat from the nuts is filling. (Go easy on the nuts. One year I gained a lot of weight from living like a chipmunk – true story. 🐿)

Nutritional Values of Nectarines

Some fun facts about this amazing fruit. One medium sized nectarine has:

63 Calories

11.2 grams Sugar
6% of the Daily Value (DV) Potassium
10% of the DV Niacin (vitamin B3)
8.5% of the DV Vitamin C
13.6% of the daily allowance of Copper

High in antioxidants and a good source of fiber, they are delicious. Why would you want to miss out on all these amazing health benefits?
